FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (August 6, 2010) – USRA Modifieds ran a one-caution feature event on Blaeser Law Night at Mississippi Thunder, but the same could
definitely not be said for the other classes. Danny Hanson wheeled his way from the last point invert spot to another win after taking over the lead from
early race leader Chanda Fjorden Nord in the WISSOTA Street Stocks.
Erik Kanz made the charge to the lead early in the USRA B-Mod main which allowed him to grace victory lane for the second time in the Engine Store.com USRA
B-Mods. Bob Fort doubled back to victory lane again this week in the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stocks while Andy Bohnstengel topped the exciting
Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature to grab his very first A-Mod feature win!
Winona Radio Driver of the Week was Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified young gun Lance Hofer. Hofer has been running strong amongst the top contenders
all season.
BOHNSTENGEL GRABS FIRST FEATURE WIN!
Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature action had Bob Fort fresh off the WISSOTA Super Stock win lead the pack along side of Andy Bohnstengel. Chris
Gilbertson raced in third ahead of Ron Konkel, Lucas Schott, and Jay Ihrke. Schott quickly made a run for third with Gilbertson, but Gilbertson pulled
away. Bohnstengel and Fort played cat and mouse for the lead for the duration of the race. Bohnstengel worked the low groove while Fort sailed around the
high side. With 12 laps down, Bohnstengel pulled to a two-car lead over Fort. Schott managed to get around Gilbertson to take over third place. The solo
caution with 15 laps down set the field back up for the final countdown with Bohnstengel, Schott, Fort, Gilberston, and Konkel at the top. Again Fort and
Bohnstengel charmed the crowd as the two continuously traded the lead. Schott was able to break away from Konkel and Gilbertson into third place on his
own. Bohnstengel finally got ahead of Fort as Schott ignited his quest for second place with Fort. For the last five laps, Schott and Fort raced side by
side for second place. Bohnstengel was able to notch his first feature win this season ahead of a very solid run by Schott. Fort, Konkel, and Ihrke
completed the top five.
HANSON HANDLES THE FIELD!
Super Dave (Smith) and Donny Ganz hit the front row for the Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Chanda Fjorden Nord whipped into second ahead
of Ganz, and Kevin Hager shot to the inside of Ganz for third. Ganz raced back as he and Hager continued to run close and clean for the spot. Nord took
over the lead from Smith as Ganz and Hager still ran third and fourth. Shaun Mann entered the top five behind Hager. Nord moved to a big lead over Ganz
and Hager as Smith dropped to fourth. Hager raced to the inside of Ganz as the two drag-raced down the front stretch for second place. Danny Hanson
wheeled his way into fourth ahead of Mann and joined Ganz, Hager, and Smith as it became a four-car fight for second place. A caution for a spin in turn
one reset the field with Nord, Ganz, Hager, Hanson, and Mann in the front at the half-way mark of the race. Nord again shot to the solo lead and left a
three-wide battle for second with Hager, Hanson, and Ganz. Hager took second place and then another three-wide battle for third ensued between Ganz,
Hanson, and Mann. Hanson pulled out of that into third and then nipped second from Hager. Nord and Hanson raced side by side for the lead when another
caution reset the pack. Hanson, Nord, Ganz, Hager, and Danny Richards set the top five. With three laps to go, Richards leaned heavily on Hager for fourth
place which put Hager in the marbles along the front stretch with nowhere to go. The light contact ended when Richards spun at the end of the front
stretch. Hager however was charged with the incident and went to tail of the field. Richards retired from the race and a restart was on its way with
Hanson, Nord, Ganz, Mann, and Smith up front. Jane Keating broke an axle with one lap to go which set up a green-white-checkered finish. Hanson topped the
field again, and was followed by Nord, Mann, Ganz, and Smith.
KANZ CAN; AND COLLECTS SECOND FEATURE WIN!
Troy Langowski and Jack Baehman set the pace in the EngineStore.com USRA B-Mod feature. Brandon Hare was all over Langowski right away, while Erik Kanz and
Ben Anderson jumped into third and fourth places. The top four of Langowski, Hare, Kanz, and Anderson broke away from the rest of the pack and left Tyler
Creeley in fifth place to lead the rest of the field. Kanz made the move around Langowski early on for the lead while Hare followed in third. Anderson
gained on Hare and the two ran dead even at the line. A caution for Baehman’s car hard into the backstretch reset the field after one of nine cautions in
the race. Kanz was able to hold his composure through it all and hit victory lane for his second win of the season. Jake Timm, Parker Hale, Tyler Creeley,
and Chad Kosidowski rounded out the top five as they sailed through the melees and survived attrition.
FORT EARNS SECOND FEATURE WIN IN A ROW!
The Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stock feature started off with a caution on the front stretch after the initial green flag. Several cars got together
and spun resulting in a couple DNFs and other damage. Jon Duffy and Michael Hofer once again led the field for the restart as Steve Thomas and Bob Fort
fell into third and fourth places. Early on, Fort, Hofer, Ben Hillman, and Duffy ran four wide for the lead. Fort was able to get up on Duffy and Hillman
for a three-wide battle for the lead. Fort gained the lead while Hillman remained just a bumper off Fort. So much shuffling of spots early on kept the
crowd on their toes. A caution realigned the field with Fort, Hillman, Duffy, Thomas, and Hofer at the top. A fast restart ensued and Thomas shot under
Duffy for third place while Gary Wiersgalla followed and put Duffy back to fifth. Jeff Brauer gained on his competitors and slipped into fourth place. An
assisted spin for Wayne Dean brought out a caution, however, Dean was charged for the incident in what proved to be the final caution of the race. The
restart had Fort, Hillman, Thomas, and Brauer up front. The top four spread out as the laps were finally run together without incident. Fort went back to
back for feature wins in the WISSOTA Super Stock followed by Hillman, Thomas, Brauer, and Hofer.
