FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (October 7, 2011) – With the season finale at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY came over 160 cars to compete at the Western Wisconsin oval. National Championships were being chased for the USRA B-Mods in which the top three contenders were in attendance; those drivers being Brandon Hare, Jake Timm, and Shaun Walski. The WISSOTA Super Stocks and the WISSOTA Street Stocks also had the top two in each division present to duke it out for the title, and duke it out they did.
WISSOTA Street Stock driver Danny Hanson conquered the division with a clean sweep to pick up three much needed points in his quest for back-to-back National titles as his close competitor Tim Johnson finished directly behind him in the feature. Shaun Walski also had a much-needed sweep in the USRA B-Mods.
Keith Foss topped the USRA Modified division over the 44 cars that entered the night's event. Steve Thomas earned the win from the pole in the WISSOTA Super Stocks as he had to battle through at least six cautions and a late race surge from Shane Kisling.
Tyler Peterson shot to the lead in the Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stock feature, but a breakdown for Peterson in turn two brought out the first of many cautions and resulted in a complete restart. Fred Prudoehl slipped to the outside pole with Darryll Foegen on the restart and took the early lead. Foegen and Cody Kummer raced side by side for second, but Danny Hanson made a fast bolt to fourth with Tim Johnson on his tail. Mike Blowers zipped into the top six as the pack set itself a short distance ahead of the rest. After a couple cautions, a Talladega-style caution erupted in turn four with multiple cars every which way. A single-file restart was ordered with Prudoehl on the point followed by Foegen, Kummer, Hanson, Blowers, and Johnson. With another caution on the books, Kummer fell off with a flat tire. As racing resumed, three-wide racing between Hanson, Foegen, and Johnson for second place sparked behind Prudoehl. Hanson finally made his pass to the lead at the half-way mark of the race. Johnson closed in on Hanson, but after the 30-minute feature, Hanson secured the win over Johnson, Blowers, Cory Hanson, and Foegen.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature flew into high gear with Jason Born and Tyler Clark out front. Grant Southworth and Dan Wheeler raced for third, but it did not take long for Wheeler to take the lead. With 11 laps down, Clark dropped water on the backstretch and shut his machine down which pulled a caution. Wheeler manned the point on the restart followed by Southworth, Tony Schill, and Cory Crapser. On a restart, Crapser got high in turn one and lost several spots. Josh Smith gained a lot of ground to climb to second behind Wheeler. Schill continued his charge in third while Mike Loomis dove into fourth after starting 16th on the field. Wheeler locked in the win followed by Smith, Schill, Southworth, and Loomis.
The EngineStore.com USRA B-Mods hit the track for their feature with fireworks as cars bounced off each other and a complete restart was in order. Tyler Creeley and Shaun Walski set the pace, but it was Walski to take command right away. Ben Anderson, Jake Timm, and Parker Hale raced for second while Troy Langowski wavered behind. Walski was nearly to the win when a caution with two to go reset the field for a green-white-checkered finish. Walski notched the win over Anderson, Timm, Hale, and Kylie Kath.
The 20-lap Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stock main hit the track with Steve Thomas and Jason Forehand leading the pack. Dave Mass was on a mission and quickly moved into second place behind Thomas. The first of many cautions flew when John Olson spun near the rear of the field with the leaders fast approaching. Thomas was able to zip to the high side to avoid Olson as the caution came out. Thomas assumed his lead followed by Mass, Ben Hillman, Forehand, and Shane Kisling. The fifth caution came out when Mass spun in turn one. The incident caused damage to multiple cars but most were able to continue. Thomas again took the point over Hillman, Kisling, Forehand, and Bart Steffen. With only seven laps down, the final caution came out when Josh Bartel was spun. Thomas continued to lead off strong but briefly raced three-wide for the lead with Kisling and Hillman. Thomas was then able to put some distance on Kisling and Hillman to seal the win. Kisling, Hillman, Jeff Brauer, and Steffen rounded out the top five.
Doug Hillson and Brad Waits set the pace for the River City Manufacturing USRA Modified main event. Luke Schott and Keith Foss raced behind. Foss took the lead and won the early-morning event over Schott, Waits, Kelly Shrock, and Robby Bunkelman.

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (October 8, 2011) – The pits were almost bursting at the seams for the final weekend of racing at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY. With new National Champions crowned in two WISSOTA divisions, a tight battle for national points in the USRA B-Mod division enticed the crowd as well.
In all three WISSOTA classes, the opening night runner up stamped out the big win in night two for the bumped up pay for participating both nights at the Fall Festival. Josh Smith buzzed from eighth place to win the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature while Shane Kisling led flag to flag in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Tim Johnson won one of the most competitive events of the weekend while solidifying his first WISSOTA Street Stock National Championship.
Jason Cummins capped his weekend off with a win in the USRA Modifieds, and Kylie Kath made a late-race pass to win the USRA B-Mod feature. The top three in the USRA B-Mod National standings were on hand and are regular MTS runners. Brandon Hare, Jake Timm, and Shaun Walski finished third, fourth, and seventh respectively to add to their point's run in the division.
The final show in the Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stocks was the highlight of the night. With the National title on the line, all eyes were on Danny Hanson as he had to win the feature to win the title. Since he got second in his heat race, the only option left was to win the main event. At that point, he was not even in contention to tie for the title. Adam Soltis and Hanson started right up front, but Soltis got the boost to the lead and left Hanson to be pursued by Tyler Peterson, Cody Kummer, and Matt Wolfe. Soltis looked very strong out front as Hanson raced hard for the lead. Kummer closed in on Hanson and a little distance back, Peterson ran in fourth. A caution with four laps in realigned the field. A restart and partial lap later, Kummer appeared to tag Hanson out of turn two which sent Hanson spinning to the back stretch wall. A collection of about four or five cars then had to be sorted out which included three of the top five runners including Kummer, Hanson, and Wolfe as well as others. Hanson headed to the pits to deal with a flat tire, Kummer headed to the tail of the field, and Shaun Mann was done for the night. Soltis led off the green followed by Mike Blowers, Peterson, Tim Johnson, and Ryan Henderson. Four-wide racing down the backstretch just before the half-way mark of the race showed the intensity of the event. Johnson moved to second behind Soltis as Hanson climbed back into fifth after going three wide with Kummer and Cory Hanson for the spot. Danny Hanson then went around in turn three which pulled another caution. Hanson's night ended there, as did his quest for a second National title. Henderson then was able to jump to the lead over Soltis and Johnson, and it appeared that Henderson was going to get that win he has been searching for, however, as the final laps closed in, Johnson made the pass and cruised across the line for the win to end his season as the newly crowned WISSOTA Street Stock National Champion.
Tony Schill and Jake Smith led the WISSOTA Midwest Modified field in their feature, and it was Smith to take the lead over Schill, Dan Wheeler, Josh Crary, and Mike Loomis. A caution early left a spun car in turn three and a lonely spring laying on the track in turn four. With two laps down, the cars sprung into full racing as they ran caution-free from that point. Wheeler raced up front ahead of Josh Smith, Jake Smith, and Crary. Cory Crapser picked off cars left and right as he broke the top five after starting 11th. Josh Smith pulled ahead of Wheeler and the rest while Crapser slipped into second place. Josh Smith pulled the rest across the line for the win ahead of Crapser, Wheeler, Jake Smith, and Mike Loomis.
The EngineStore.com USRA B-Mods set sail with Brandon Hare and Ben Anderson at the helm. Jake Timm moved into contention for the lead with Anderson and Kylie Kath while Parker Hale seemed to be steaming ahead into the top five. Timm attempted to shoot under Hare for the lead, but Hare battled back. Again, Timm raced hard in second while Anderson and Kath closed in. Timm finally grabbed the lead from Hare, but Hare took it back at the line. Timm finally made the pass stick as he led over Hare, Anderson, and Kath. Kath then split between Hare and Anderson to take over second. Timm continued his lead while Kath and Anderson raced side by side for second. Shaun Walski entered the picture for the top five when Kath and Anderson caught up to race three-wide for the lead with Timm with only two laps to go. Kath charged ahead and held the lead to win the final race over Anderson, Timm, Walski, and Kyle Anderson.
Shane Kisling pulled the pole in the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stock feature inside Jason Forehand. Ashley Anderson, in Ben Hillman's #22, chased Kisling and Forehand in third while Tommy Richards and Rick Lisowski raced side by side for fourth. Kisling continued to lead over Anderson when a caution at 12 laps reset the field. Kisling led Anderson, Forehand, Richards, Michael Hofer, and the rest of the field on the restart. Richards and Forehand battled close for third ahead of Hofer while Josh Rodewald and Andy Grymala ran in sixth and seventh spots. Kisling led flag to flag with no real challenges to win the feature. It capped off his weekend and his first National Title in the WISSOTA Super Stocks.
Bob Fort and Bob Timm set the pace in the River City Manufacturing USRA Modified main event, but Kelly Shryock moved in to battle Timm followed by Jason Cummins and Jay Ihrke. Fort dropped back quickly while Shryock and Timm raced side by side for the lead. Keith Foss and Joel Alberts entered the top five, and with only five laps down, the first caution came out. After the restart, Shryock was able to pull away from Timm. Cummins raced Timm for second and took second place while Foss continued to charge into the top spots. With 15 laps down, the fourth caution set up a green-flag race to the finish with Shryock, Foss, Cummins, Timm, and Alberts out front. At lap 20, Cummins took the high side on Shryock to battle for the lead. Shryock's machine began to show some smoke, but Shryock kept his foot in it to race for the lead. Brad Waits moved into third place with Foss while Timm held on to fifth place. With two laps to go, Cummins secured the lead over Shryock and Waits. The win was Cummins', and Shryock managed to hold onto second. Waits, Foss, and Timm rounded out the top five.
2011 is a done deal. Stay tuned to the track website for details on the season banquet as well as other announcements for the upcoming season.
