CODY GARDNER WINS VERY FIRST USRA LTD LATE MODEL FEATURE

WAITS, JUMBECK, WILLIAMS, & RICHARDS ALSO WINNERS DURING SUGARLOAF FORD NIGHT

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday July 10, 2015) – "Dog Days Of Summer"? To some, that may be what it felt like during SugarLoaf Ford Night at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Friday July 10th . . . hot and humid weather swept into the area, pressing down on the racers and fans with an almost palpable presence that never left the corner of a person's thoughts. But there were several individuals who enjoyed such sweet success that the celebrations easily allowed them the ability to forget about the thick conditions and smile.

Cody Gardner was one of those individuals!

2015 has been a bit of a re-birth for Gardner . . . stepping way from the USRA B-Mod ranks which have colored his past few years of racing, Gardner found the option of an entirely new division to be just what he wanted to pursue. USRA Ltd Late Models! It was exactly the sort of racing the Winona, MN racer was looking for.

Gardner used the first half of 2015 to become acclimated to his new car, the new division, the new competitors . . . but with each passing week, Gardner, his competitors and even the fans in the MTS grandstands could see that the #81 was putting in consistent growth and improvement which was pushing the racer closer to the front of the field.

During SugarLoaf Ford Night, Gardner pushed all the way to the front of the field, celebrating his first ever USRA Ltd Late Model Feature win!

The box score, however, just doesn't reflect the battle to the finish as Gardner lead all 20 laps of the feature. But, literally right behind Gardner's #81 was the #11 Ford of first heat-race winner, multi-time feature winner, and current point leader, Lance Hofer. On the closing laps, Gardner was aware of the #11 stalking him for the lead. With just a couple laps remaining, Gardner almost gave the lead away, driving just a bit too hard into turn two - the Mastersbilt Late Model pushed up the banking of the second turn, opening the inside lane to Hofer.

The two drag-raced down the back straight with both diving low into turn three! Gardner held on to the lead, and just barely beat Hofer back to the finish line for the win!

Hofer settled for second directly behind Gardner, followed by Shaun Mann in third and second heat race winner Troy Hovey fourth.

WAITS DOMINATES FOR MODIFIED FEATURE WIN

Brad Waits once again put the competition on notice - when he and his flat-black #24 are at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY, the others may very well need to be content with racing for second!

Jumping from the outside of the front row, Waits raced away from the pack on his way to another feature win. But the 25-lap feature, of which he lead every single lap, was far from uneventful. Nearing the half-way point, Waits had opened up a commanding lead on the competition, closing in on the tail end of the lead lap cars, Waits' night suddenly took an unexpected turn. Racing through turn 3 at full speed, Waits was suddenly faced with a blocked track, with the #18 of Mick Glenn spinning out directly in front of him. Waits locked it up, and through his own Modified into an avoidance spin, sliding to a stop just inches before making contact with the stalled Mod of Glenn.

Another spin later during the feature also unfolded almost directly in front of Waits, in turn one. While not quite as dramatic, it still seemed that Waits' battle for the win was just as much about clearing obstacles developing ahead of him as it was about keeping competitors behind him.

"Yeah, ya know, we've been at this quite a long time", commented Waits in Victory Lane after the win, "You really just kind of learn not to let situations like that get to you and distract you from what you really need to focus on to get the win. I just paid attention to the car, the great track that Bob [Timm] and his team put together again tonight."

While former feature winner Keith Foss appeared to be closing in on the leader, there was never a real challenge for the lead, with Foss finishing about a second and a half back in second place, ahead of third heat race winner Cory Crapser who finished third.

WILLIAMSON WINS

Alex Williamson enjoyed a return to his winning ways Friday - leading every single lap of the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod feature. But that lead was challenged throughout the 18-lap feature.

First it was the #00R of first heat race winner Chad Rosendahl who stayed with Williamson for the opening 10 laps to battle for the lead.

Then it was the #12K of third heat race winner Casey Knutson - Knutson closing in on the leader to challenge for a run at the front. Knutson actually took the lead at one point, only to loose it when a caution came out just after the pass for position.

The it was the #28 of former point leader Parker Hale, who worked around Knutson and then battled Williamson right to the waiving checkered flag.

To say that Williamson had to battle for the win would be an understatement, “I saw Casey come down below me knew that I had to change my line," Williamson said in Victory Lane, "then I saw Parker coming on the outside and thought, ‘Dang, I can't make a mistake,’” Williamson said. “I settled down and went after it.”

The win was Williamson's first feature win of the year at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY, Hale, Knutson, Ryan Olson, and fourth heat race winner Jon Van Minsel completed the top-5.

JUMBECK BACK IN VICTORY LANE

Kyle Jumbeck raced his way to another redbox+ 600 Mod feature win, battling forward from his fourth row starting spot in the 16-car field to pass division 'hot shoes' such as former Track Champions Greg Wohletz & Bob Cisewski as well as second heat race winner Chris Gilbertson.

The feature win set up a 'clean sweep' of the evening for Jumbeck as he also one the evening's opening heat race.

RICHARDS RACES TO SIXTH FEATURE WIN!

What's it going to take for the WISSOTA Super Stock competition to beat Mondovi, WI's Tommy Richards? Who knows! We sure didn't find out Friday night as Richards raced his way to his sixth Coordinated Business Systems WISSOTA Super Stock feature win this season!

The #7R is without a doubt the class of the field every single night the division hits the track at MTS. Friday night, Pole Sitter Brandon Duellman jumped out for the early lead, but Richards was moving through the field from his starting position outside of the fourth row.

At one point, it appeared that perhaps Richards wouldn't be celebrating in Victory Lane as his car slowed visibly on the back straight; but, after returning to speed, Richards showed his skill and determination, slicing and dicing his way through the competition to get to the front and take the lead before rocketing on to the win.

In Victory Lane Richards explained with a chuckle what had happened to his car to make it slow on the back straight, "Well, I accidentally hit the kill switch with my elbow!"

Duellman finished second, followed by Jay Oricchio in third and heat race winners Jeff Brauer and Dan Nissalke in fourth and fifth, respectively.

SUTTON AND SEVERTSON RETURN TO VICTORY LANE

Derek Sutton raced to his second Jailhouse Saloon Sportsman feature win of the season, surviving an attrition laden feature to beat former Pure Stock Champion Lee Hager and rookie Nate Butterfield to the waving checkered flag!

In the MTS Hornets division, Johnny Severtson raced from a starting spot of dead last in the field to grab yet another feature win!

CHISHOLM AND SUCKOW GRAB MINI-MOD FEATURE WINS

Joey Chisholm raced to his first Sunshine Refuse A Mini-Mod feature win of the year on the Lightning Speedway with Cole Suckow winning the Sunshine Refuse B Mini-Mod main event!

Racing resumes next Friday night July 17th with Winona County Night at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY as the first green flag of the evening waives at 6:00 PM for the Batwing Chassis Outlaw Mini Mods along with the Sunshine Refuse A & B Midwest Mini Mods on the 1/10-mile "Lightning Speedway", which is located within the infield of MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY.
