FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (October 15th, 2016) –- MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY is happy to release details related to our Charitable Giving Campaign from the 2016
racing season.
Since it's grand opening in the spring of 2009, one of the main efforts of MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY has been to try to "GIVE BACK" to those
organizations and/or charities that populate the area surrounding what we feel is one of the greatest 1/3-Mile dirt tracks in the upper mid-west.
MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY owners Bob & Paula Timm and Tom & Tina Lockner know that race fans are a supportive group . . . and, given the opportunity to
have a little fun while, at the same time, providing out-of-pocket support for a local charity, they'll gladly open their purse or wallet and get involved.
Through this understanding of the generosity and support of local race fans, the owners & representatives of MTS came up with the concept of the
MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY 50/50 FUNdraiser!
On any race night, any visitor to MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY (fan, sponsor, racer, pit crew, etc.)
has the opportunity to buy into this charity supporting activity; one ticket only costs a single dollar - six tickets for $5! At the end of the evening the total
monies raised are then "split"; and, as the name implies, half goes directly to the evening's charity, while the other half goes to the lucky race fan holding the
other half of the ticket stub that has been drawn as the evening's winner!
While many racing venues, and even non-racing establishments, throughout the United States employ a similar "50/50" scenario, from day one MISSISSIPPI THUNDER
SPEEDWAY owners made it clear that not a single penny of funds raised via the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY 50/50 FUNdraiser would go to the track.
Every single cent goes, either, to the recipient organization of the evening, or, to the winning ticket purchaser (in hopes that in future weeks, some of that
money will return to the FUNdraiser again)!
Hence the name "the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY 50/50 FUNdraiser!"
And now, MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY is so pleased to release some of the figures from the 2016 program!
During the 2016 campaign of the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY 50/50 FUNdraiser (DESPITE 8 rain outs and 1 bye week - at which times MTS was closed and
unable to raise funds via the program) MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY was so honored to present almost $12,000 to organizations AND race fans!
That's almost $24,000 in total ($23,532 to be exact)!!
- April 29th: $565 (Winhawks Dance Team)
- May 6th: $950 (Winona Lacrosse Team)
- May 20th: $637 (Bethel Lutheran Youth Group)
- June 24th: $975 (Central Lutheran Childcare Center)
- July 1st: $1860: (Winona Wrestling)
- July 8th: $511 (CFC FFA)
- July 15th: $713 (W-K Elementary)
- July 22nd: $610 (Cotter Football Team)
- July 29th: $604 (CFC FFA)
- August 5th: $625 (U-12 Winona Euro Boys Soccer Team)
- August 26th: $837 (CFC FFA)
- September Nationals: $1283/$331 (St. Jude)
- October 7th: $500 (Golden Hornets 4-H)
- October 8th: $765 (GET Trailblazer Snowmobile Club)
In addition to the above noted local organizations, MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY was also very excited about our involvement with St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital - the recipient of $1,650 during the "5TH ANNUAL DAHL CHEVROLET, BUICK, GMC MODIFIED NATIONALS, QUARTER-MILLION DOLLAR WEEKEND" held the second
week of September.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Our purpose is clear: Finding cures. Saving children.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most - saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Once again, MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY is honored to have been involved in this way . . . to act as a bit of a "conduit" to help create a connection
between the generous race fans who visit the facility every week, and local/area/regional/national organizations which can always use funding assistance!
We at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY offer a "Tip O' The Hat" to each and every individual who opened their hearts and their wallets/purses to help raise
some much needed funds for these organizations . . . this Checkered Flag is for you!!
MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY is located 3.0 miles north of Fountain City on Wisconsin Highway 35. For more information, call 608-687-3282 or
