FASTENAL NIGHT AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY PRODUCES EXCITEMENT!

First-Time Feature winner Jon VanMinsel Joins Repeat Winners Josh Angst, Justin Sass, & Jeremy Oakes In Victory Lane

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday July 22, 2016) – MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY welcomed Fastenal to the West-Central Wisconsin race track to celebrate their involvement in motorsports at both the local level as well as the pinicle level of stock car competition. As local dirt-track heros battled for the checkered flag, race fans also had the chance to grab some free Fastenal Racing SWAG as get up close and personal with the #17 Fastenal Sprint Cup car of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.!

As the evening progressed, fans were treated to a fast program - 3, 4 & even 5 wide battles for position, a photo finish, as well as a first-time feature winner for 2016 in the Dahl Chevrolet Buick GMC Victory Lane!

JON VANMINSEL RACES TO 1ST FEATURE WIN OF 2016

A week before Friday's FASTENAL NIGHT FESTIVITIES at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY, Jon VanMinsel talked about his 2016 season on the "Live Trackside" radio program, "Seems like I've got a lot of second place finishes - I'm not complaining . . . but, a win would be great."

FASTENAL Night was his night to break out of the "Second-Place Struggle".

The evening began with a blistering run during the second Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod heat race. In a 'stacked field' comprised of feature winners Casey Knutson, Ryan Olson and Ben Moudry (who is also the current point leader), VanMinsel's #1 was like a rocket ship - fast and smooth.

The evening's feature line-up gave the Spring Grove, MN racer an almost perfect starting spot - outside of the front row.

Followed by a "who's who" list of B-Mod hot shots - Moudry, Olson, Knutson, Brandon Hare, third heat-race winner Alex Williamson, JT Wasmund, Tyler Creeley - VanMinsel never faultered, leading the way to the checkered flag and his first feature win of 2016!

"This new Dirt Dueller car is great," explained VanMinsel in Victory Lane, "It took a little learning - both setup wise and driving - but, with help and guidance from Les (Duellman) and the group at LDR (Les Duellman Racing) I'm loving this car!"

Moudry, Olson, Knutson, & Hare completed the top-5 at the finish line.

ANGST BACK ON TOP WITH FEATURE WIN

Winonan Josh Angst is back in 'The Zone' - racing in the manner that looks ready to set him up for battling towards his third Track Championship at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY!

With a clean sweep during FASTENAL Night (winning both his heat race and the evening's "FASTENAL 25" feature) Angst showed speed and form which could set him up for the late season push needed to lock the championship.

But his feature win was not an easy grab - Winona, MN's Keith Foss battled Angst for every single inch of racing groove during almost every single corner of every lap; a battle which raged right down to the waiving checkered flag! At the line, it was Angst over Foss by literally INCHES (if that). Digital timing and scoreing provided a difference at the line of 0.064 seconds!!

"A race like that is so fun," smiled Angst after the win, "Every win is good - but a battle like that, almost the entire feature and side by side at the checkered flag is pretty cool."

Foss settled for what must have felt like a heart-breaking second, ahead of John Doelle in third.

SASS AND RICHARDS BACK TO VICTORY LANE

Two-Time Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Ltd Late Model Feature Winner Justin Sass added a third to his resume Friday night, returning to Victory Lane after pulling away from the tight field during Friday's high temps.

"A big thank you to Bob and his crew for a great track tonight," offered Sass during his Victory Lane interview, "and a big thank you to you fans who braved the heat today to come out here and watch us race; thank you."

After an early battle with Ryan Konkel and Shaun Mann, Sass flirted with 90 mph average lap speeds to race on to the win via a 2.2 second advantage over Mann. Former first-time Late Model feature winner Troy Langowski snuck past Konkel to complete the top-3.

In the Coordinated Business Systems WISSOTA Super Stock division, Tommy Richards was up to his usual level of performance - collecting his 7th feature win (and fourth in a row) of 2016.

Former two-time MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Track Champion Jeff Brauer beat Danny Richards to the line for second.

OAKES & HARMSTON ALSO WINNERS

Harmston Trucking MTS Hornet Driver Howard Harmston may have pulled off the 'Save Of The Year' Friday night. During an early feature battle for second, Harmston's #777 pushed high in turn two. Within inches of the outside retaining wall, Harmston grabbed a handful of steering wheel and fought for the save. What happened next is almost hard to describe - as the words needed will make it seem implausible, if not impossible.

Harmston's Hornet caught bite, the front turned left and the rear end followed. A whip-crack spin begin, during which time Harmston's car turned more than 90 degrees - the front end actually pointing slightly back towards turn two. Harmston never got out of the throttle!

The Altura, MN driver chased the car all the way across the track, before turning it back to the correct direction - just kissing the infield grass Harmston completed the save with a low entry into turn three . . . only loosing one position (from second to third) through the entire spin!

The green flag stayed out and Harmston resumed his battle for position - eventuallly re-taking second and then the lead before racing on for the win!

Dan Prissel finished second with pole-sitter Austin Berger holding on for a strong third.

Jeremy Oakes grabbed his third feature win of 2016 in the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock division, followed to the checkered flag by Scott Spilde and "Crazy Phil from Centerville".

TARRAS & KNUTSON WINNERS ON THE LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY

After a second place finish in the afternoon's first heat race, Triton Krause raced to a Sunshine Refuse Sr. Slingshot feature win on The LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY; with Braden Brauer and Gavin Tarras finishing close behind.

In the Sunshine Refuse Jr. Slingshot division, Brady Boland snared feature win number FIVE! Kolton Brauer and Wyatt Hanson enjoyed strong runs to finish second and third, respectively.

Racing resumes next Friday night July 29th with the 8th Annual $1,000-to-win Baehman B-Mod Challenge!

Green flag competition begins at 5:45 with the Sunshine Refuse Slingshots on the LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY.
