By Dan Bailey
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday August 4, 2017) – Lakeview Drive Inn / Stone Machinery / Winona Culvers Night at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY started with sunshine and blue skies over head; but by midway through the evening's heat races, the clouds had rolled in and a heavy downpour began a 90 minute rain delay that completely changed the complexion of the evening!

After the track crew, and volunteers from the grand stands, had re-packed the track, the competition was fast and furious through the final checkered flag!

A 90 minute rain delay between the second and third Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod heat race threw a bit of a monkey wrench into the plans for the evening. After the brief, but heavy, rains moved through the area, race fans from the stands were invited to bring their 4-wheel drive pick-ups out onto the track to join the speedway machinery and help pack the track back into race-ready conditions.

Many of the trucks had fans in the passenger seats as well, smiling and waving to those in the grandstands - cell phone cameras snapping pictures and recording videos of the unique opportunity.

SORENSEN RACES TO FIRST USRA MODIFIED FEATURE WIN AT MTS

Tony Schill's #8s jumped from it's pole position starting spot to begin the 25-Lap Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature.

Schill lead the opening seven laps before the #19 of Dustin Sorenson snuck by to take the lead and claim his first USRA Modified feature win of the year at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY.

3-Time and defending MTS Track Champion Josh Angst showed his championship winning skills, again - starting on the outside of the fourth row and battling all the way forward to a second place finish.

Schill slipped to his eventual third place finish on the final two circuits - followed across the line by Keith Foss (#95) and 2015 MTS Track Champion Brad Waits (#24) in fifth.

HOFER IS HANDED ANOTHER USRA LATE MODEL FEATURE VICTORY

Shaun Mann appeared on his way to his first Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Late Model feature win of 2017.

Starting from the pole, Mann and his #01 built up a huge lead over the opening 15 laps of the 20-lap feature; but on lap 15, Mann caught lapped traffic on the front straight away.

Entering turn one, Mann had nowhere to go - jumped the cushion/berm at the top of the banking and lost speed in the 'marbles' on the extreme outside edge of the track. As Mann was struggling to regain control, 7-time feature winner Lance Hofer dove to the inside and grabbed the lead with his Complete Filtration Resources #11.

Hofer raced to this 8th feature win (in 9 starts this season) while Mann dropped further back to an eventual third place finish behind the #9 of Mark Teske.

"HARE NATION" ROCKS TO USRA B-MODS CHECKERS

The #56H of 2-Time USRA National Champion Brandon Hare rocketed away from the outside front row starting spot and led every single lap of the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod feature.

Pole sitter Zach Brom battled up front for the opening few laps before slipping back to fifth through lap 11 when a mechanical failure on his Riverland Trucking #43 ended the youngster's feature early.

Ryan Olson moved steadily forward from the 3rd row to his eventual second place finish just behind Hare, while JT Wasmund, behind the wheel of a new-to-him Dirt Dueller B-Mod battled the entire feature in the top 3.

The 12K of Casey Knutson and Parker Hale (#28) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

KRAUSE CRUISES TO SECOND STRAIGHT USRA HOBBY STOCK WIN

Travis Krause picked up his second straight USRA Feature win with his #X01 by beating Brady Link (#29) to the finish of the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock feature.

Link finished second.

GILBERTSON GRABS 600 MOD FEATURE

Fans were treated to a non-stop side-by-side battle for the lead and eventual win during the 18-lap redbox+ 600 Mod feature.

2-time, and defending, feature winner Brad Kramer and 5-time feature winner Chris Gilbertson ran the entirety of the feature side by side at the front of the field, swapping the lead multiple times per lap!

Gilbertson's #4G raced the outside groove near the top of the banking as Kramer's #13 stuck right around the bottom.

The two crossed the finish line, beneath the checkered flag, still almost directly side-by-side with Gilbertson picking up this 3rd weekly event Feature win of 2017 at MTS.

Kramer and 2012 Track Champion Greg Wohletz finished second and third, respectively.

SCHLOEGEL SAFE ATOP POINTS BATTLE WITH SECOND HORNET WIN

Series point leader Jason Schloegel (#77) won the Harmston Trucking MTS Horent feature after a race long battle with top-5 point contenders JR Tourtellott (#35), Don Martens (#7M), & Brandon Gleiter (#20)

KRAUSE COLLECTS SLINGSHOT WIN ON LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY

Trevor Krause picked up a clean sweep during the early evening action - winning both his Sunshine Refuse Jr. Slingshot heat race and the feature.

The Sunshine Refuse Sr. Slingshot feature was cancelled due to the rain - there will be double features next Friday.

Sr. Slingshot heat race winners were the #27 of Jacob Peterson and the #16 of Jake James.
