By Dan Bailey & Daily News Staff
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday July 7, 2017) – After "Mother Nature" doused the hopes of race fans the prior Friday evening, MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY came back for a second week and ramped up the excitement in order to bring the 9th Annual Rivercity Rumble to the fans and racers alike!

As the evening closed, fans witnessed impressive battles throughout the large count of competitors and for every position on the track - wrapped up with Ryan Olson and Keith Foss grabbing the huge hardware and large payout as winners of the Rivercity Rumble features in the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod and Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified divisions respectively.

FOSS FASTEST

Keith Foss used some daring moves and took advantage of some congestion to speed past Lucas Schott and cash in on a big payday during the 9th Annual Rivercity Rumble at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY.

Foss won the $3,000-to-win Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds feature on Friday night at the ninth annual Rivercity Rumble on the one-third mile, high-banked dirt oval track.

Rain forced the event to be postponed from June 30.

Foss started ninth in the 25-car feature field and slipped to 10th before making his charge. Schott was on the pole — the race featured a three-wide starting lineup with Jake Timm in the middle and USMTS star Zach Vanderbeek on the outside along with Schott — and took a commanding lead. However, as Schott appeared to be on his way to a commanding victory — and a $3,000 check — Foss was working through the field. With about seven laps left in the 30-lap feature, Schott caught the tail end of the lead lap cars and began trying to find his way through lapped traffic. But those cars didn’t want to fall off the lead lap, and Schott’s momentum was slowed.

Foss moved to the high groove to work past the lapped traffic and Schott with two laps left to take the lead and hold on for the win.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am,” Foss said in Victory Lane. “Running second behind Luke was actually what gave me the win. I was able to watch his choice as he got to the lapped traffic. Unfortunately for him, he went to the middle and that didn’t work out for him.

“Worked great for me, though.”

Schott finished second, followed by Timm, Vanderbeek and three-time MTS track champion Josh Angst.

OLSON FLIES TO FEATURE FINISH

Thirty cars battled it out in a 30-lap Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods with a $2,500 purse up for grabs. “Flyin’” Ryan Olson lived up to his nickname, jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag and staying on the extreme high groove the entire race. He was inches off the outside concrete retaining wall in Turns 1 and 2 and well ahead of the field to win the feature.

“In years past, that extra 20 feet of race track wasn’t there,” Olson said in Victory Lane. “But I used all of the extra race track and banking tonight. Bob Timm and his crew laid out a perfect race track tonight.”

Former track champion Erik Kanz started on the pole and finished second. Defending track champion Ben Moudry was third, while Jason Schlangen made a push from the middle of the fifth row to finish fourth. Dan Hovden was fifth.

HOFER HOLDS OFF BAHR FOR LATE MODEL WIN

Lance Hofer, a 2015 track champion, won another Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Late Models presented by Big Toy Storage feature, and although he led from start to finish, it wasn’t easy.

Tony Bahr worked his way through the field to challenge Hofer, but Hofer fended it off to grab the feature win. Bahr was second, followed by 2016 track champion Justin Sass, Ryan Konkel and Mark Teske.

JUMBECK JUBILANT WITH 600 MOD FEATURE WIN

Kyle Jumbeck and Bruce Schmitt spend the entire 18-lap Redbox+ 600 Mod feature racing side by side. Jumbeck rode at the top to earn the win, while Schmitt was second running along the bottom of the track. Joe Provinzino used Bryan Molitor’s No. 27M car to finish third.

DWYER DRIVES TO HOBBY STOCK FEATURE WIN

Steve Dwyer won the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks feature, holding off points leader Steve Holthaus. Howard Harmston won the 12-lap Harmston Trucking MTS Hornets feature on the same night he was celebrating his 10-year anniversary with wife, Sheila.

BOLAND AND STOCKHAUSEN WIN ON LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY

#88B Brady Boland won the Sunshine Refuse SR Slingshot feature, finishing ahead of heat race winners Jake James (#16) and the #19 of Jordan Peterson.

In the JR Slingshot division, Mason Stockhausen collected his second straight feature win with his #59, followed across the finish line by heat race winner Owen Rosendahl (#00).

Enjoy Another Exciting Night of Regular Season Action next Friday, July 14th, presented by Winona Diesel / Peterbilt!

Green flag competition begins at 6 pm with the Sunshine Refuse Slingshots on the LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY.

Action on "The Big 1/3 Mile" resumes immediately following the 7 PM Opening Ceremonies with green flag laps provided by the Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds, Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Limited Late Models presented by Big Toy Storage, Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods, Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks, REDBOX+ 600 Mods, & Harmston Trucking MTS Hornets!
