FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday June 13, 2017) – The 1st Annual Steamboat Days Race For A Cause presented by Miller Ingenuity has been deemed a success at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY! The Tuesday night program opened the 2017 Steamboat days celebration, brought dignitaries to the track, opened the sport to non-typical fans, & raised more than $1000 for Breast-Fest!

In front of all these positives, the crowd really cheered when Hometown Fan-Favorite Bruce Schmitt held off repeated challenges from the #32 Miller Ingenuity 600 Mod of former Track Champion Greg Wohletz to grab a feature win!

There were three other big stories during the evening as well:
  • 3-Time, and defending, Track Champion Josh Angst grabbed the $1500-To-Win Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature win - and in doing so, also won a guaranteed provisional starting spot in this September's huge 2017 Modified Nationals at MTS!
  • Defending, Track Champion Ben Moudry grabbed the $1000-To-Win Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod feature win - and also won a guaranteed provisional starting spot in this September's huge 2017 Modified Nationals at MTS!
  • Brady Link continued his strangle hold on the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock division - grabbing his 5th feature win of the young 2017 season!
SCHMITT RACES TO STEAMBOAT DAYS 600-MOD FEATURE WIN

Hometown racer Bruce Schmitt is one of those guys everyone seems to like. Always a smile on his face. A humble soft-spoken personality. He comes across as one of those dudes with whom everyone just likes to hang out.

He's had his fair share of close finishes in 2017 - which have brought sincere cheers, and sighs of "almost", from the crowds at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY. Tuesday night Schmitt jumped out to an early lead in the Steamboat Days Race For A Cause 18-Lap redbox+ 600 Mod feature.

But no sooner had Schmitt established his lead on the field, when 2012 MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Track Champion Greg Wohletz stormed through the field and quickly closed in on Schmitt. Wohletz' pounced so quickly that many wouldn't have been surpirsed to see another "almost" for Schmitt. But, Tuesday's outcome was different.

Wohletz battled Schmitt for multiple laps, trying the work inside of Schmitt's #80 to take the lead - at one point actually leading Schmitt down the back straight and into turn 3. But, on this particular evening, Schmitt was not to be denied!

Schmitt fended off every challenge Wohletz could offer, and then, in the closing laps, actually pulled away - building up a commanding lead all the way to the waiving checkered flag! As Schmitt crossed the finish line, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause - some jumping to their feet, almost all with smiles on their faces!

Wohletz settled for second with his Miller Ingenuity #32, followed across the line by the #7 of Adam Rogich, the #01X of defending Track Champion Kyle Jumbeck, & the #1 of Cody Gardner completing the top-5.

ANGST LEAVES MTS $1500 RICHER AND QUALIFIED FOR SEPTEMBER'S MOD NATIONALS

Defending Track Champion Josh Angst raced to the $1500 Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature win Tuesday evening and also punched his ticket for a guaranteed provisional starting spot in September's 2017 DAHL AUTO PLAZA MODIFIED NATIONALS.

"After having to completely build a brand new car (after a wreck the prior week at a different speedway), a night like this makes the effort and work worth it," explained Angst in Victory Lane, "A big thank you to the sponsors for this big purse on a special event like this to start Steamboat days . . . . that guaranteed provisional for the Mod Nationals is huge, with $2000 just to start!"

Jake Timm, fresh off his feature win the week before, continued to show his strength with a second place rush beneath the checkered flag, while former Track Champion Lucas Schott completed the top-3.

MOUDRY GRABS $1000 WIN AND GUARANTEED PROVISIONAL FOR SEPTEMBER'S MOD NATIONALS

2016 MTS Track Champion Ben Moudry battled his way back into Victory Lane by winning Tuesday's Miller Ingenuity 18-Lap Feature! After a runner-up finish in the early evening's second heat race, Moudry jumped from his inside of the second row starting spot and battled early race leader Brian Mahlstedt and the #21 of Strum, WI's "Flyin' Ryan" Olson for time at the front of the field.

On lap 8 Moudry worked past for the lead and held the top spot all the way to the finish - a feature win worth $1000 in Victory Lane and a guaranteed provisional starting spot in September's "$230,000 2017 Dahl Auto Plaza Modified Nationals"!

Unfortunately for Mahlstedt his strong run up front came crashing to a halt in a 7-car pileup at the top of the banking in turn 1.

After dropping at low as ninth in the 21-car field, Dan Hovden worked through the heavy traffic to a second-place finish - followed by heat race winner Kylie Kath and youngster Jayden Larson.

LINK LENGTHENS HIS LEAD WITH ANOTHER HOBBY STOCK FEATURE WIN

Brady Link bested a strong field of Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks to continue his strangle-hold on the division at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY.

#9ER Adam Speicher and #7 Steve Dwyer battled with the #18S of Scott Spilde and the #70 of Steve Holthaus for second . . . as Link took yet another win with his #29!
