WILD COUNTRY 99 / BUD NIGHT EXCITES ALL AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY!!

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday May 12, 2017) – Friday nights are heating up quickly! Blue sky, Sunshine, Amazing competition, & fun for the fans and racers alike took over the spot light Friday night May 12th as WILD COUNTRY 99 / BUDWEISER Night exploded with fun and excitement at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY!

Many in attendance found out, or were reminded once again, just why the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod division is the most popular class at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY.

Erik Kanz and Taylor Ausrud swapped the lead at least 12 times in the second half of the 18-lap B-Mod feature, before Kanz finally made a pass stick during the final laps to collect his first feature win of 2017.

Upcoming B-Mod star Zach Brom led the feature early before being passed on the bottom by Jon Van Minsel. Van Minsel then enjoyed the point for a few laps before Ausrud and his black and yellow #3A fought for the lead using the extreme high groove. Riding inches away from the outside wall, Ausrud battled Van Minsel, Kanz and Brandon Hare for a place at the front of the pack.

While Ausrud lead every lap from 5 through 15, at the start/finish line, the swaps for the number 1 position seemed to switch on a never-ending basis through the final 11 laps of the feature!

Back and forth went Kanz and Ausrud, switching the lead between turns 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 lap after lap!

Kanz finally took the lead with just a trio of laps remaining and took advantage of Ausrud scrapping the turn three wall, to race on to the checkered flag and the feature win. Van Minsel passed Ausrud as well to finish second.

"Taylor showed that he has really upped his game for this year," said Kanz in Victory Lane, "We battled close and hard for almost that entire race, and we never touched once!

"My passed in (turns) 3 & 4 were actually starting down here in (turns) 1 & 2." Continued Kanz, "I was faster in 1 & 2 and could get a run down the back straight to enter 3 low and slide to the lead in 4; then Taylor was switch low out of 4 and get back by!"

Ausrud held on for third. Brom was fourth and two-time USRA national champion Hare completing the top-5 in the 25-car feature.

Two of the best to hit the high banks of MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY went head-to-head early in the Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds feature.

Two-time B-Mod track champion Jacob Bleess opening of the 25-lap feature before 3-time Track Champion Josh Angst found an opening and took it, stretching the lead en route to his first feature win of the 2017 season.

Angst, from Winona, said in Victory Lane he wanted to run on the outside, but Bless was faster up there. He made his move down low in Turn 3 and held on for the win.

Jake Timm then passed Bleess on a mid-race restart for a second-place finish. Bleess, 2015 Track Champion Brad Waits and Pat Doer rounded out the top 5.

Lance Hofer won his second-straight feature in the Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Late Models presented by Big Toy Storage. Ryan Konkel led the opening lap before Hofer, the 2015 track champion, grabbed the lead.

The win wasn’t easy, however as contact in Turn 4 rattled his #11 hard.

“Pretty hard hit,” Hofer said after the race. “But strapped in, I was OK.”

Shaun Mann raced through the field to finish second for his best feature finish this season while Konkel finished third.

The Redbox+ 600 Mods feature was a five-car battle up front.

Cody Maier grabbed the opening lead, then Cody Gardner challenged him. Two-time and defending champion Kyle Jumbeck passed for the lead on the high line. Bruce Schmitt and Curt Luhmann joined in the battle as well.

Luhmann passed for the lead and held on for the feature win.

Brady Link continued his dominance in the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks class, winning his third straight feature of the season. Passing Phil Wernert and Steve Dwyer to work into the lead of the 15-lap feature, Link showed his strength in this competetive division. Gregory Lammers had quite a feature, working through the field late and using a last lap rush to finish second. Steve Holthaus, defending MTS track champion Jeremy Oakes and Wernert completed the top 5.

Jason Schloegel raced to his first Harmston Trucking MTS Hornets feature win.

The Sunshine Refuse Slingshot Season Opening feature winners were Brady Boland (Seniors) and Colton Brauer (Juniors).

Next week is Winona National Bank night at MTS with action in all classes. Slingshots begin on the Lighting Speedway at 6 p.m., and opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m.

Racing resumes next Friday night May 19th with Winona National Bank Night!

Green flag competition begins at 6 pm with the Sunshine Refuse Slingshots on the LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY.

Action on "The Big 1/3 Mile" resumes immediately following the 7 PM Opening Ceremonies with green flag laps provided by the Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds, Centerville Welding & Repair USRA Limited Late Models presented by Big Toy Storage, Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods, Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks, & Harmston Trucking MTS Hornets!
