JEREMY JOHNSON WINS THE $1000-TO-WIN HORNET SWARM WHILE 13 YEAR-OLD TRITON KRAUSE GRABS HIS FIRST FEATURE AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY!
By Dan Bailey
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday August 17th, 2018) – On an evening when the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY spotlight was shining directly on the Harmston Trucking MTS Hornet division - Jeremy Johnson climbed
behind the wheel of his #917 and turned in a flawless performance that led him into Victory Lane as champion of the $1000-To-Win Hornet Swarm!
Not to be over-shadowed by Johnson's big night was the fact that Triton Krause showed that the next generation of winners is already with us, when the 13 year-old
drove his #34 Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock to his very first feature win! The "Old Guard" stood strong though, with Greg Wohletz & Dustin Sorensen making
return trips to the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY's Victory Lane while Lance Hofer made a late race charge to stretch his unbeaten streak to NINE Feature
Wins In A Row!
JOHNSON POCKETS $1000 AS HORNET SWARM WINNER
$1000 on the line (10 times as much as a weekly feature win!) is quite the motivator for Harmston Trucking MTS Hornet Drivers. 30 Hornet drivers took to
the track for the "$1000-To-Win Hornet Swarm" feature and the battles throughout the field were almost epic.
Shadow Kitchner followed almost directly in the tire tracks of Jeremy Johnson's #917 for pretty much the entirety of the feature; but just couldn't quite find a
way around the eventual winner. After winning the division's fourth heat race, Johnson lead the field across the line at the end of the feature and turned in a
pretty impressive Victory Lane dance as he hoisted the hefty Twisted Kustoms Trophy and pocketed the $1000 feature-winner's check.
Nate Coopman's charge from 9th up to his eventual 3rd place finish would have been impressive, if not for the steady methodical charge turned in by 2015 Hornet
Swarm winner (and 2014 Track Champion) Mark Bornitz, who literally borrowed a car for this single event and then proceeded to charge forward from his 20th place
starting position (TWENTIETH!) to a fifth place finish, just behind the #007 of Adam Gates.
TRITON KRAUSE, 13 YEAR-OLD USRA HOBBY STOCK FEATURE WINNER
13 year-old Triton Krause raised eyebrows when he sat atop the point standings of the Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock division at the end of June. During an
interview on the "Thunder Talk" radio program, Triton mentioned that being at the top of the point standings would be great . . . but what he really wanted was
that first feature win.
The Fountain City, WI youngster needs to wait no longer, as Friday night he held off some VERY impressive challengers to check this goal off of his bucket list!
Levi Sand followed Krause across the finish line in second, with Travis Krause (behind the wheel of defending Track Champion Steve Holthaus' #70 - which Krause
had borrowed for the feature after blowing the transmission out of his own #X01) completing the top-3.
HOFER STAYS UNBEATEN WITH 9TH USRA LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN IN A ROW
Lance Hofer almost saw his unbeaten streak broken Friday evening . . . ALMOST!
Dan Gullikson brought his #33x to MTS for his first Late Model visit in 2018 and almost turned a front-row starting spot into a feature win to break Hofer's
8-in-a-row win streak . . . ALMOST!
After winning the evening's second heat race, Gullikson looked to be the class of the field - turning in consistently fast laps all night long and opening up a
seemingly insurmountable lead through the first two-thirds of the 20-lap feature. But a late-race caution, and the unwillingness of Hofer to give up brought the
#11 up to battle the #33x for the lead and eventual win.
Hofer, with an ill-handling ride - after some mid-race contact working through lapped traffic - pushed it as hard as possible and finally took the lead in the
closing laps, to extend his un-beaten streak to 9-straight feature wins! Gullikson settled for second, followed beneath the checkered flag by 2016 Track Champion
WOHLETZ ENJOYS SECOND STRAIGHT 600 MOD WIN
After what seemed like a never-ending run of 'almost but not quite' runs by 2012 Track Champion Greg Wohletz, his #32 suddenly seems unbeatable.
For the second event in a row, Wohletz rolled his ride into MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY's Victory Lane to celebrate a redbox+ 600 Mod feature win.
Wohletz was followed across the line closely by Kurt Kramer's #17 with second heat race winner Chris Gilbertson's #4G in third. Then it was first heat race winner
Ben Anderson and David Benke rounding out the top-5 in fourth and fifth, respectively.
WILLIAMSON RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE WITH ANOTHER AUGUST WIN
Alex Williamson has a fun way to celebrate his August birthday - every year, despite how the first 3/4th of the season has gone, he somehow always seems to find
his way into MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY's Dahl Auto Plaza Victory Lane to enjoy an enthusiastic celebration!
This past Friday was no different as "The Iceman", as he's known, froze the competition and raced to his first feature win of 2018 at MTS! First heat race winner
Shaun Walski backed up the prior week's feature win, with a strong second place finish - just ahead of Taylor Skauge, in third - while Sioux Falls, SD racer Miah
Christiansen put forth and amazing charge from his SIXTEENTH place starting position, to finish fourth!
SORENSEN SMILES WITH SECOND USRA MODIFIED FEATURE WIN
STOCKHAUSEN AND BOLAND ARE SLINGSHOT WINNERS ON THE LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY
Brady Boland won another Sunshine Refuse SR. Slingshot feature with Mason Stockhausen winning in the JR. Slingshot division on The LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY!
In the Jr Slingshot division, Mason Stockhausen reclaimed the lead late in the feature win grab another win ahead of Ian Engrav!
