By Dan Bailey
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday July 31, 2020) – On an evening to celebrate the life and memory of Casey Knutson, spectators were treated to incredible battles for position that would have made even Casey's seemingly eternal smile even larger; the cheers were a bit louder, the tears were a bit heavier and a huge turn out at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY celebrated with a bit more enthusiasm that would have made Casey proud!

By the time the final checkered flag was waived, Cayden Carter pocketed the huge 12K+ payout as winner of the "K-TOWN KLASH; with Cory Crapser & Scott Spilde joining the celebration as winners in the Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modified and Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock features during "The Inaugural Casey Knutson Memorial"!

CARTER WINS K-TOWN KLASH FEATURE

"I know that this evening is so special," commented Cayden Carter from Victory Lane after winning the "12K-To-Win K-TOWN KLASH - The Inaugural Casey Knutson Memorial", "I can see by this amazing turnout of fans in the grandstands, and even racers in the pits, just how special Casey was to everybody."

Not a mention of the $12,000+ dollars that he'd just won, not his car, not his driving . . . but, Casey.

If the evening could be summed up in one instant, that might have been it; that was basically the feeling everyone was experiencing. Earlier in the night, during the "Live Trackside" radio broadcast, former competitors of Knutson's, Alex Williamson and Colby Mann mirrored the sentiment, "Heck, even if there was NO payout tonight, and I had to spend extra money just to race . . . I'd be here for Casey," commented Mann.

All in all, the turnout was impressive, and not the least be surprising: Casey Knutson Memorial T-Shirts were sold out within minutes of the grandstands being opened, a new attendence record (in both the grandstands and pit area) was set & 79 Blackhorse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods took to the track - joining the 135 total competitors (in just three divisions) for an opportunity to be a part of the evening.

From the drop of the green flag, Oskaloosa, IA's Cayden Carter jumped from the outside of the front row to lead a lion's share of the 40-lap feature. The #24C of Jim Chisholm gave chase, and in the closing laps, actually took over the lead for a couple circuits of "The Big 1/3-Mile", before Carter reclaimed the top spot and raced into Victory Lane to claim the 12K+ pay check.

The top two were followed beneath the waiving checkered flags by the #65 of Lebanon, MO's Kris Jackson in third and MTS regulars Parker Hale and Taylor Skauge in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Fall Creek, WI's Josh Smith won the "Non Qualifier's Feature".

CRAPSER CAPTURES $3000 A-Mod FEATURE

Cory Crapser picked a perfect evening to return to MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY's Victory Lane - turning in a 'clean sweep' to do so (winning both the evening's first A-Mod heat race and the $3,000-To-Win Feature).

"It has been a while since I've been able to celebrate here," smiled Crapser after the win, "I'm just glad that on a night like tonight I was able to make it happen."

Crapser was able to keep Elk Mound, WI speedster A.J. Diemel behind him for the win with two-time former track champion Lucas Schott completing the top-3.

SPILDE KEEPS THE WINS COMING

Just one evening earlier Cresco, IA's Scott Spilde raced to a USRA Hobby Stock Feature win in Mason City, IA . . . but Friday Night's Victory meant more. "YES!" Shouted Spilde in Victory Lane, while still strapped into his #18 Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stock, "This one is for Casey!!"

Chris Hovden and Jason Borsheim followed across the finish line in second and third, respectively.

MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY returns to green-flag action Friday August 14th with the "USRA LATE MODEL SPECIAL PRESENTED BY RJ’S FAST TRACKS & TWO BROTHER’S AUTO".

7:30 Opening Ceremonies will be followed by green-flag action from Centerville Welding and Repair USRA Late Models, Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods, Jailhouse Saloon USRA Hobby Stocks, & Sunshine Refuse MTS Hornets!
